Alan Barrett is an interdisciplinary artist from the metro Atlanta area, who will graduate with his B.F.A. In ceramic arts from the University of Georgia in May of 2022. Barrett’s history in ceramics combined with his newer love of figurative painting, has led his work to ebb and flow from 2D to 3D. Although his range of approaches continues to expand, Barrett's work always centers around processing and documenting personal narratives. Inspired by stream of consciousness approaches Barrett employs the mark responding to mark technique. His most recent work explores themes of masculinity through expressive figurative painting, recurring floral motifs, and sculptural ceramic vessels. Barrett has appeared in numerous shows in the Atlanta and Athens area as well, most recently curating his own collaborative group show, “Time at the Table”. During the 2021-22 school year he has also served as the Artist in Residence for UGA’s Office of Sustainability, implementing his creative ideation and art making skills into ongoing sustainability projects.
